Halloween (Traditional health view)

I observed one trait from my Nigerian folks and it could be common among all people and that is the trait of being judgemental.  If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck Many of my Nigerian friends believe the Halloween celebration is demonic maybe because it looks scary, the activities and costumes look devilish but it is worthy of note that Halloween is actually a Christian holiday. It originated from Christianity and it’s a day to celebrate the eve of all saint day. The day to remember Christian’s (Saints) who have slept in the Lord. It is usually celebrated with a vigil and people abstain from eating animal product and become vegetarian.  TCM Nigeria would like to talk about the mental health aspect of this celebration and also the consumption of vegetables. The Halloween holiday is always celebrated on the 31st of October which is the eve of All saint day celebrated on the 1st of November and All Souls’ Day on the seco...

Medical Side Effect

When I think about this practice, my thoughts goes back to the first invasion of smallpox to the world. Many people believe that the survival of smallpox becomes immune to the sickness, so there was a practice  then called viriology.  The process of infecting people with the small pox virus and trying to cure it so they can stay immune to smallpox.  This practice left most of their survivals blind but a good number survived it until Edward Jenner discovered that victims infected with cowpox are naturally immune to smallpox which brought about the study and practice of immunology.  Cowpox was not just a protection from smallpox, but was also communicable with the ability to transmit from one person to the other given it a wide protection from small pox, till it was announced that smallpox had been completely eradicated from the world. Irrespective of the fact that it prevented smallpox, it still leavse its victims with symptoms of fever, headache, malaise, vomit...

Boyhood and Fatherhood

Today being Father’s Day the 18th of June 2023, we have heard a lot about who indeed a father is? My friend trying to define who a father is, she answered in her words and I quote: tomorrow is for Men that have the courage to stay and carry responsibility of a child.  Not for baby dads who can only show penis as manhood   We really do not understand what is going on to the men of our generation, they are no longer around to witness the development of their children anymore. This post is really not focused on that but on what transforms a boy from a boy to a Man. We could gather from our little findings that what transform boys to fathers is their ability to take responsibilities. I want to believe that most of the men find themselves into Fatherhood without adequate preparation so the best and the easiest way out of the situation is to run away. Many of the boys got no sex education and are not just equip on how to handle responsibilities or when to prepare for responsi...

CB1 Receptor and Homeostasis

We had discussed cannabinoid in a lot of our post and now we are visiting it in homeostasis. The importance of it (cannabinoid) cannot be over emphasized, one of our first blog was on hemp seed oil and we have profer CBD for fibromyalgia and also talked about it as a possible remedy for the Novel COVID-19 virus pandemic that took the world by storm. Now we want to discuss homeostasis. Before I continue, I would like to say why I chose to blog on it. I recently travelled to a region of different weather condition, nevertheless, the theme of this blog is focus on Nigeria so don't worry my Nigerian friends, we shall still talk about alternative health for that demography and FYI, homeostasis is applicable to everyone irrespective of your region. In Nigeria, we are used to having air-condition and we condition the temperature to 16-18 degree Celsius. I now found myself in an environment where I have to live in a temperature that is -4 or less degree Celsius. I remember in Nigeria w...

Alternative Health and Nigerian Government

The practice of Traditional, complementary and Alternative medicine is taking a new turn with the Nigerian Government establishing a department for it out of the Government Ministry Department and Agencies (MDA). The department was approved by the head of Service in April 2018 and commences operation fully in July 2018. We could wish the department i.e. Tradition, Complementary and Alternative Medicine Department (TCAMD) a happy 5 years anniversary. The department carries the vision of seeing the practice of Traditional, complementary and Alternative medicine in Nigeria become a respected mode of treatment. It seeks to preserve our cultural heritage with respectable practitioners and providers. It seeks to deliver quality healthcare to all Nigerians through its practice and benefiting from its economic potential. The department is divided into four division which are: Traditional Medicine Practice (TMP), Complementary and Alternative Medicines Practice (CAMP),  Herbal product...

Assaulting a minor and Baba Ijesha Jail Sentence

We all know this blog is not a gossip blog but we talk about holistic or as some call it alternative health which addresses several part of the patient participating in the healing process- physical, mental, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and the rest of it. A person needs to be well in all these accept to be wholly well. It has become a popular cliche in this blog the definition of health by the WHO, health is the state of complete physical, mental and social well being not just the absence of disease and infirmity. We should remember the incident of this Nollywood actor who was catch trying to molest a 14 years old minor. His name is Olanrewaju James alias baba Ijesha. He has been convicted of rape and sentence to 16years imprisonment. I just wanted to give the little gist, let the gossip guys go do their work, let's dwell a little on the health consequences of the act. If he had succeeded in putting the young 14years old girl child into family way, he risk the chances of th...

Bestility Health consequencies and Laws

The mind is getting reprobate as the year goes by, I woke up this morning after doing my reading before even saying my prayers and reading my bible then I started seeing sex of animals with humans going viral on whatsapp social media app (status update to be precise). I had to mute the first person because clearly I know she's less concern about her image, so she can go out to put whatever on social media. Then started seeing it on different post and I thought as someone who promote alternative health in Nigeria, it is important I post something about it, and remind us of some of the laws of this act in other jurisdiction and  the health consequences. Bestiality is simply having sexual intercourse with an animal. Irrespective of the animal, be it dogs, cat, horse, pig, goat etc. having sex with something alive that is not a person is bestiality and it's illegal and harmful to both parties. Bestiality is punishable by death in the early modern period. Sweden executed 700 peopl...
